The Marketing and Communications offices have distinct roles in promoting Maryland and sharing information about the work of the Department of Commerce. Marketing leads the state's business and talent attraction brand and marketing efforts, while Communications manages media relations and agency communications.

What We Do

Marketing

Marketing promotes Maryland to business decision makers and talent in Maryland, across the country and around the world. The office leads the state's business and talent attraction brand, including:

  • Brand strategy and messaging
  • Advertising strategy, media planning and audience targeting
  • Digital marketing, websites, email and social media
  • Creative services and marketing materials
  • Marketing support for industry events and tradeshows

Maryland's business and talent marketing efforts are supported in part by the Maryland Marketing Partnership, a public-private partnership focused on promoting Maryland as a place to do business.


Communications

Communications shares news and information about Maryland Commerce and the state's business community. The office:

  • Manages media relations and responds to press inquiries
  • Develops press releases, talking points and speeches
  • Coordinates agency announcements and communications
  • Manages Public Information Act requests and speaker requests
